Competitors in Sunday’s Round the Rock paddle board race — 13 miles around Mercer Island, Washington. I took some shots from a dock at the south end of Mercer Island, where paddlers had already slogged through 10 miles and then a strong headwind on the east side of the island.

Most common comments we heard from the dock: "What was I thinking?" and "I’m almost there, right?"
