REALLY !? I thought the goal was to *surf* the biggest wave on a board, now
we customize these things into a high tech mechanical device ? This is no
longer surfing…c’mon dude this is bullshit ….. using such a device WILL
take it to new limits but it’s no longer surfing as we know it….which was
the REAL intent and goals to be achieved…….pfffff……whatever….
There is no more important phrase here than «I have been scared many times
on waves». What that simple phrase actually means is: I’ve over come
successively larger and more difficult waves than before. The waves he
charges since are far more dangerous.
I have surfed for 30 years now. Past my own personal peak. Laird might
want to consider passing knowledge to get that biggest wave ever ridden.
That’s a truly tough call though. Time may run out on Laird’s time to wait
for the biggest waves and his time to ride them versus his time and ability
to share such knowledge that can be shared. For Laird has reached the
echelon that is very difficult to share. He has also reached said echelon
that will be surpassed by mother nature….. sooner or later. She is
indeed the only patient one around.
Good luck Laird with both. I would credit your pupil as I would credit
you. It might take 50 or 100 years but your name will be there. As will
be all the worlds knowledgeable surfers.

The «Freaks of Nature» program presents Laird Hamilton in such an obnoxious
way–with the hyped host and overwrought music–that it’s impossible to
enjoy. And they reference his stepfather «Bob Hamilton,» who is actually
Bill (or Billy) Hamilton.
Laird retired years ago, he drives the jet ski and pulls guys into the
waves anymore.
Wow, a whole new world of surfing.
